As Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced a lockdown on the country earlier this week, daycares, schools are called to shut down temporarily to combat the outspread of coronavirus.
Schools down, kids back home, what now?
1. Calm down
First thing first, you need to calm down. Parents’ emotional states directly impact their children. If you’re nervous, panic, and anxious, your children will start to feel the same. Especially when their social activities are restricted, their emotional states are highly dependent on you. So try to keep cool even if you’re really worried.
2. Set up a new routine
Even when you don’t have to go to the office, you’re likely to work from home, at the same time, you will need to take care of your kids. It is very hard to stay focus on work when you’re kids are not cooperating with you. You will need to come up with a new routine and teach your kids, give them some time to get used to it.
If you’re busy with work, search up some educational podcasts, some podcasts read stories to kids, some sing songs to them. Pick the right program and it will save you tons of time and energy.
3. Hygiene awareness
Teach your kids to wash their hands, cover their nose when they sneeze. It is time to provide your kids with the right information, teach them how to protect themselves.
Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, which equals to sing Happy Birthday song twice. Sing Happy Birthday song with your children when they’re cleaning their hands!
