Baby Milestones and development are skills that babies acquire in the first 12 months of life. A lot happens in the first year.
Babies coo, babble, imitate words, and begin to say their first words. They smile, laugh and interact with their caregivers. Movement milestones include rolling, sitting unaided, crawling, standing, and possibly walking. All babies grow at different rates and variation is normal.
0-3 Months:
– Physical Development: Can lift their hand during tummy time.
– Speech & Language: Can make “ooh” and “ahh” sounds.
– Advance Skills: Can bring their hands together and swat at toys. Start to grasp objects.
– Cognitive Development: Respond to sounds and recognize your voice.
4-6 Months:
– Physical Development: Can roll over from tummy to back and vice versa
– Speech & Language: Begins to imitate sounds.
– Advance Skills: Begins to pull of drag favorite toys or objects towards themselves.
– Cognitive Development: Begins to chew of toys/objects.
7-9 Months:
– Physical Development: Can sit independently
– Speech & Language: Can say words like “mama” and “dada”.
– Advance Skills: Can bang objects or toys together to make a sound.
– Cognitive Development: May experience “Stranger danger” and become shy around ppl.
10-12 Months:
– Physical Development: Can Stand while supported by an object or person
– Speech & Language: Starts to copy sounds and gesture
– Advance Skills: Can pick things up (like small bits of food) between thumb and forefinger.
– Cognitive Development: Continues to communicate wants and needs through pointing or hand gesture.
It’s important to remember that every baby develops at their own pace, and some may reach milestones earlier or later than others. If you have concerns about your baby’s development, it’s always a good idea to talk to your healthcare provider.
