Being a mother is a full-time job, and with such a busy schedule, we regularly forget to take some time off for ourselves. We are often too tired to do the things we enjoy and we are rarely motivated to get more physically active. Not only is working out extremely beneficial for your body, but frequent trips to the gym give you a perfect excuse to have some much-deserved alone time. So, stop putting it off, get ready, and hit the gym! Here are some of the most essential things you need to have in your gym bag at all times:
1. Clean towel
A hard workout leaves you a lot sweatier than running after your kids all day, so packing a clean, dry towel is a must. Although most gyms provide towels nowadays, it is still recommended to carry your own. You never know how they clean them or what kind of detergent they use, so it’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially if you are a person who is prone to allergies.
2. Water bottle

3. Training shoes
An adequate pair of gym shoes will give you great support and help you combat those hard-cardio exercises with ease. Choose from the most well-known and trusted sports brands like Nike which has a huge variety of sneakers for everyone’s taste and need. So, what are you waiting for? Grab a new pair and hit the gym to proudly show them off!
4. Gym clothes
This might seem obvious, but a good pair of leggings and a light, breezy t-shirt really go a long way. Suitable gym clothes make you feel comfortable and give you space to breathe so that you can focus on getting rid of those extra kilograms you’ve put on, and they’re always a good option for moms on the go even when performing everyday tasks.
5. Toiletries
A shower is an unavoidable thing after a hard workout, so make sure you always carry a shower gel and shampoo in your gym bag. None of us wants to be sticky and stinky, so pack some deodorant as well, to ensure you smell fresh and clean throughout the day.
6. Extra underwear
Is there anything worse than getting out of the shower only to discover you forgot to pack clean underwear? It is best to always keep an extra pair in your bag to prevent a mishap like this from happening.
7. Makeup bag
Even if you are not a person who wears makeup on a daily basis, having a little makeup bag always with you is a lifesaver. Apart from makeup, you can pack some dry shampoo and a hairbrush, or even a lotion or skin care product. It is much easier to touch up and look prettier when you have all of your necessities in one place.
8. Headbands and hair ties
Whether you’re a person who keeps their elastic bands in a bag or around their wrist, it’s always handy to have some extra ones in your gym bag for throwing your hair up in a ponytail or a bun. Apart from being useful in the gym, if you have a hair tie with you at all times, you’ll always be able to prevent your hair from getting in the way while you’re snuggled up with your little one.
9. Healthy snack
After a long workout, you’ll want some protein fast because it helps your muscles recover. Pack a healthy granola bar or a protein shake to make sure you’re ready to tackle the day. And with such a hectic schedule, who knows when you’ll have enough time to sit down for a full meal, so it’s always better to be prepared.
10. Headphones
A gym session without headphones is a disaster. No one wants to be distracted by bad overheard gym music and other people’s grunts. It is always a good idea to keep a set of headphones in your gym bag so that you can enjoy your workout even more with a personalized playlist of upbeat songs (such as: will on the bus go round and round…hahaha) which help you focus and motivate you to tackle that stubborn baby weight.
